Insulating begins on the Eco Cottage

Things are progressing well with the Eco Cottage, the triple glazed windows are in and the insulation to the exterior of the house is well under way.

This house is being insulated externally, which involves low cost EPS insulation being mechanically fixed to the outside of the walls and a silicone-based render system being applied directly to the insulation, giving an attractive rendered finished.  Once the render is completed, you are unable to tell the difference between this type of construction and traditional cavity walls, as the external finish is the same.

It’s a very cost effective way of building and insulating your home as the price of building the external walls is practically halved.  The insulation can be applied by anyone who can handle some DIY and it can then be rendered by any plasterer, there are no specialist equipment or trades required, which makes it very accessible for everyone.
